Why SolidWorks? SolidWorks Interface History

Why SolidWorks?

The answer to this question can be very simple: “Because SolidWorks is the best!”, but let’s see why we consider SolidWorks the best.

Here at Vegra we have over 10 years of experience in CAD using the well known names in the industry: AutoDesk Inventor, Mechanical Desktop, AutoCAD, ProEngineer and of course SolidWorks.

Before choosing a CAD product is always best to know something about the company and people who delivers the product, how they’r doing and who’s running the business. Considering this, it is very clear that SolidWorks is here to stay and play an important role on the market.

We’r going to present some of the history of the people who played an important role at SolidWorks.

The company was founded in 1993 by:
1.       Jon Hirschtick, CEO
Hirschtick is the former director of DesignView Group of Computervision. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
2.       Scot Harris, Director of Product Engineering (joined SolidWorks in February 1994)
He was the former Director of Product Engineering of Computervision and has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
3.       Michael Payne, Vice President of R&D (joined SolidWorks in August 1994)
He is a founding member and was the Vice President of R&D for Parametric Technology (Pro/Engineer). He has bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, masters in physics and an MBA.
-          In June 1997 SolidWorks Corporation was acquired by Dassault Systèmes (owner of CATIA) for the amount of 310 mil. $ in stocks. The acquisition leaves intact the management team  and development personal, and Solidworks Corporation continues to operate as an individual company.
